New publication: Financial vs Impact Tension

‘Scaling Success: helping entrepreneurs navigate tensions while scaling their business’ is a consultancy research project conducted by Master’s students from Utrecht University. This report explores how inclusive business entrepreneurs manage the tensions between financial sustainability and social/environmental impact when scaling their businesses within Orange Corners’ programmes in Angola, South Africa and Mozambique.

‘Scaling Success’ underscores the significant tensions arising from conflicting financial, social and environmental business goals. Entrepreneurs often struggle with limited funding and the high costs of achieving social/environmental impact, necessitating a delicate balance and reframing of business models. Despite these challenges, some entrepreneurs have successfully integrated impact into their operations, benefiting from improved brand image and resource efficiency.

Combining survey data and in-depth interviews, the study delves into the personal experiences and challenges Orange Corners entrepreneurs face, offering valuable insights, practical recommendations for improving entrepreneurship training programmes, and suggestions for further research.
