Five One Labs, our new implementing partner in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, has successfully graduated their inaugural Orange Corners Erbil cohort. This is a historic moment, as it marks the first-ever acceleration cohort in OC Erbil’s history. Unlike the previous six cohorts, which were focused on incubation, this milestone reflects a new phase for the region’s young entrepreneurs.
Over the past six months, our participants have made remarkable strides in accelerating their businesses, setting the standard for future cohorts. Reflecting on their journey, the graduating entrepreneurs highlighted three key areas of improvement: financial administration, job creation and product or service improvements. Every participant reported improved financial record-keeping, with two-thirds successfully hiring new staff. Additionally, over half of the graduates modified their existing products or services. These achievements demonstrate the programme’s effectiveness in meeting the diverse needs of startups in Erbil.
The programme also had a tangible impact on job creation, with the average number of employees per business increasing from 2.36 to 3.33 by the end of the programme. This growth underscores the role of Orange Corners in fostering both business development and community impact through increased employment.
