In the media: the struggle for youth employment in Iraq

Earlier this month, our Orange Corners Programme Advisor Geerten Schurink joined NL Youth Ambassador Jurriaan Middelhoff on a visit to Iraq. In his blog for the Youth at Heart website, he discusses trends and developments in the Iraqi labour market, plus a pilot project around youth employment we’re currently running with Iraqi consultancy company Wedo.

This youth employment project, implemented by a former Orange Corners Erbil participant, offers skill trainings to students at four different universities in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. Wedo brings together students, CDCs and the private sector to co-design a training programme that fits the needs of everyone involved. After following the programme, promising students are offered internships at the companies involved, hopefully resulting in a successful career in the private sector.
